Get to know resident Madge Davis

When you are greeted by Madge Davis, you instantly know she is a professional woman with an intelligent gaze and a warm inviting manner. Madge is a resident at Paoli Health and Living Community. She has been president of the Orleans Women’s Club, she organized the Orleans Business and Professional Women’s club, founded the Orleans Home Economics Group, and she was the state president of the Indiana chapter of the national service sorority Phi Beta Psi. Phi Beta Psi is one of the largest non-academic sorority groups in the country who is working hard to eliminate cancer from the world.

Madge grew up on a farm about nine miles east of Orleans. “We had corn, wheat, milk cows, chickens, and hogs. We grew all our own food, almost everyone did. It’s a lot different than the way most kids are raised nowadays.” Madge started her education in a long past manner, a one room school house from first to eighth grades. “We did our chores then walked to school. Came home and did chores again before dinner and homework.”

Madge moved into Paoli Health and Living four years ago for rehab following back surgery. “I loved my stay for rehab,” she said, “they took such good care of me I decided I wanted to live here. It’s been very enjoyable, I’ve made lots of friends. This is my home.” Madge is active in and around the community as is her want. “I go to all the activities. I love them. I like to play bingo twice a week and I am a member of the resident’s council.”
